Saint-Witz, Gateway to the Oise-Pays de France Regional Park

Our journey begins with Saint-Witz, a gateway to the splendid Oise-Pays de France Regional Park. A breath of fresh air and greenery to immerse yourself in serene tranquility, far from the city bustle.

Chaalis Abbey, A Haven of Peace and Beauty

On the way to Senlis, you will have the opportunity to walk along the Abbey of Chaalis, nestled in the heart of the forest of Ermenonville. Founded in the 12th century, this Cistercian abbey today presents the ruins of the abbey church as well as a charming intact chapel decorated with frescoes by Primaticcio (Francesco Primaticcio and his 16th century paintings).

Senlis, Medieval Heritage and Gothic Cathedral

We then continue our journey to Senlis, famous for its old town center and its Gothic cathedral. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to admire the castle of Raray.

The cathedral of Senlis, dedicated to Notre Dame, is a precious witness of primitive Gothic. Its construction began in the 12th century and took several decades, leaving traces of different architectural styles over time. Its western portal is a masterpiece of Gothic sculpture. The interior, with its slender vault and colorful stained glass windows, offers an atmosphere of peace and contemplation.

The Château de Raray, with its imposing medieval towers and splendid gardens, is a site worth a stop. Its fame goes beyond our borders since it served as the setting for the film "Beauty and the Beast" by Jean Cocteau, making it even more magical and mysterious.

Melo, Creil and the Forest of Per-Froidemont

After a quick crossing of Creil, we take the direction of Melo. Here the road becomes more pleasant, winding through the forest of Per-Froidemont, an ideal place for a picnic break before resuming the road towards the east of Beauvais.

Beauvais and its Magnificent Cathedral

In Beauvais, take the time to admire its cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture which proudly dominates the urban landscape.

Saint-Pierre de Beauvais Cathedral holds the record for the highest choir vault in the world at 48.5 meters. This ambition to exceed all established standards caused many structural problems and even led to the collapse of part of the building. Despite these challenges, the cathedral, with its flamboyant facade and fascinating astronomical clock, is a marvel to discover. Her story is a poignant testimony to the human determination to reach new heights, despite the challenges.

Gisors, Capital of Norman Vexin

Our journey then takes us to Gisors, capital of the Norman Vexin. This ancient medieval town is shrouded in mysteries and legends, including that of the Templar treasury.

L'Isle-Adam, Royaumont Abbey and Chantilly Castle

Passing through L'Isle-Adam, get ready for the visits and stops along the way. Royaumont Abbey, founded by Saint Louis, is one of the sites not to be missed. And of course, the Château de Chantilly, a real nugget, is an artistic and historical treasure of France.

Royaumont Abbey founded by Saint Louis in the 13th century, considered the largest preserved Cistercian abbey in Île-de-France. Its large monks' hall and its cloister are remarkable examples of Gothic architecture.

Coye-la-Ville and the ponds of Commelles

Before ending our trip, let's take a detour to Coye-la-Ville. The Etangs de Commelles offer the ideal place for a relaxing break. This is an opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the serenity of the place before returning to Saint-Witz.

The return to Saint-Witz is no less picturesque. The wooded road linking Pontarmé to Mortefontaine offers a soothing end to the day for bikers.
